CYBER SECURITY:-

How to avoid spy malware

How to Avoid Spyware

Pegasus spyware is once again being discussed all over the world including India, which has been created by Israeli cyber intelligence firm NSO Group and which works for surveillance.  This is software that can gain access to your phone without consent and steal your personal and sensitive information.  It is usually difficult for a common user to detect spy ware, but there are some things, with the help of which the threat of spy ware can be reduced.

Smartphone is such a personal device, which people use most in today's era.  In this, all your personal information is also stored such as email, text, photo, banking information etc.  In such a situation, the smartphone is the biggest target for spyware.  Once spy malware is installed on your smartphone or PC, then your spying starts.  In a way, it takes control of your entire device.  Most spy malware is difficult to detect.  If any spyware is installed on the smartphone, then hackers can easily access call logs and apps from a distance.

 What does Pegasus spyware do?

Talking about Pegasus spyware, it is specially developed for spying.  According to Kaspersky, any user's SMS, email, calls, screenshots, keystrokes, contacts, browser history, etc. can be easily accessed through Pegasus spyware.  Pegasus can also turn on the camera and mic of your phone, that is, once this spyware is installed on your device, then all your information will continue to be available to the hacker.  This software is also dangerous because hackers gain access to the phone without the user clicking on any link.  It is also called zero-click exploit.  This spyware does not leave any footprint after installation.  You will not even know that your phone or PC has been hacked.  It can also work on low bandwidth.

 Zero click attack is dangerous:-

Malware is usually installed on the device when a link is clicked, but Zero Click is different.  In zero click attack, even if you do not open the spyware sent by the message, it still gets installed on your device.  Usually, in a cyber attack, hackers wait for some mistake of the users, but in zero click, complete control of your phone can be taken by just sending a message or by making a missed call.  It is very difficult to identify zero clicks.  Hackers adopt different methods to install Pegasus on the device.  Sometimes an exploit link is sent to the target device via message.  As soon as the user clicks on this link, Pegasus is installed on the phone.  Not only this, Pegasus can also gain access to the device's operating system through a WhatsApp call.  The danger is that users do not even know about it.

Even the iPhone is not safe from Pegasus:

iPhone is generally considered more secure than Android in terms of security, but this phone is also not safe from Pegasus spyware.  23 iPhones were easily hacked in Amnesty International's investigation.  An Amnesty International report also claimed that the Pegasus spyware from Israel's NSO Group is capable of hacking iPhone 7 and iPhone 12 also through iMessage Zero Click.  The report claims that thousands of iPhones have been tracked through Pegasus.  All iPhones have Pegasus installed via iMessage Zero Click.

How can locate Pegasus:-

Researchers at Amnesty International have developed a Mobile Verification Toolkit (MVT) to detect Pegasus.  This toolkit can tell if your phone is infected with spyware or not.  It can be used on both Android and iOS devices.  MVT's code is open source.  Let us tell you that some technical knowledge is required for this.  Before using it, you have to back up the data present in the phone.  It can also decrypt encrypted backups of iOS.

Keep Updating Software on Smartphones and PCs:-

• Always update your smartphone and PC software to avoid spyware, malware etc.  Generally, people ignore software updates, but these updates are very useful in terms of security.  If there are any flaws or bugs in the security of the phone or PC, then it can be fixed with these updates.  Not only this, if there are any outdated apps in your phone and PC or if you are not using any apps for a long time, then it should be deleted. Through this hacking of your phone can be done.

• Do not open WhatsApp email, SMS or any link unless you have full confidence that it has been sent from the correct source.  If there is any link related to the temptation or offer, do not open it at all. This may lead to an attempt to hack the phone.  Keep your phone and PC clean from time to time.  Also, be sure to use a firewall or antivirus.

How to recognize spy apps on smartphone:-

If the Android device runs on older software, it becomes easier to spy apps.  Make sure that your device is behaving strangely, such as increased network usage, unexpected network connection, unexpected activity, etc.  Apart from this, monitor the bandwidth through the data monitoring app. Also, see which strange app is using the data excessively.  It could also be a spyware app.  The problem with an Android device is that it can be easily rooted, which gives control over the entire device.  Hackers take advantage of this to easily hide spyware in the device.  The permissions should be taken care of before installing any app on the smartphone.  Keep in mind, download apps only from authorized sources, otherwise you can get into trouble.  Always update apps and software.  You can take the help of applications like Malware byte Security, Super Anti Spyware, Spyware Blast to scan for spy apps in the smartphone. If you want to remove spyware from the device in an easy way, then factory reset is the easiest way.  Make sure to back up before factory reset.

How to avoid spyware on desktop:-

Keyloggers, malware, etc. are the main tools for spying on the user on the desktop. With the help of these, the system can be accessed even while away.  Hackers can see the user's activities on the computer.  Let us tell you that Remote Access Trojan (RAT) is a much more dangerous malware.  This allows hackers to break into your system.  Keyloggers spyware steals login information from your system via keystrokes.  It can steal your banking information, internet media passwords. By the way, swiware can also be installed remotely in the system. Let us tell you that it is easier to install spy apps on desktop than on smart phone.  It can be detected if the desktop has spyware installed. System starts getting slow or sluggish or suddenly caches, appears multiple sin-ups or adware, or redirects to random website, unexpected in browser settings  If changes are seen or random error messages appear, then understand that there may be spyware in the system.  Norton Security Premium, AVG Internet Security, Bitdi Fender, etc. can use anti virus tools to scan for spyware.
