1) Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has been declared as “Water Plus” city.

➨ The civic body has received the ‘Water Plus’ certification from Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) under Swachh Bharat Mission and Swachh Survekshan Assessment.

➨ It was learnt that along with Visakhapatnam, Tirupathi Municipal Corporation and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has also received the tag.

2) The Delhi University has decided to implement the National Education Policy from the next academic year, prompting the varsity teachers' body to call a strike.

➨ The Standing Committee on Academic Matters approved the implementation of the policy from 2022-23, the four-year undergraduate programme and the multiple entries and exit options for students.


3) Senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, La. Ganesan, was appointed as the new Governor of Manipur.

➨ The post of the Governor had fallen vacant after the retirement of Najma Heptulla, earlier this month.

➨Dr. Heptulla had demitted office on August 10 and on the same day the charge was given to Sikkim Governor, Ganga Prasad.

4) As many as 54 athletes from India will be competing in 9 sports disciplines including archery, athletics (Track and Field), badminton, swimming, weightlifting among others. 

➨ This is the biggest-ever contingent India has sent to any Paralympics. All 54 athletes are part of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) scheme, as per the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.


5) Japan’s space agency plans to bring soil samples back from the Mars region ahead of the US and Chinese missions now operating on Mars, in hopes of finding clues to the planet’s origin and traces of possible life.

➙The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, plans to launch an explorer in 2024 to land on the Martian moon Phobos to collect 10 grams of soil and bring it back to Earth in 2029.


6) Two ships of the Indian Navy, namely INS Ranvijay and INS Kora carried out a Maritime Partnership Exercise with BRP Antonio Luna of the Philippine Navy on 23 August 2021 in the West Philippine Sea.


7) An Army selection board has cleared the way for the promotion of five women officers to Colonel rank after they completed 26 years of “reckonable service”.

➨This is the first time that women officers serving with the Corps of Signals, Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) and the Corps of Engineers have been approved to the rank of Colonel.


8) The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) re-appointed T M Bhasin as chairman of the Advisory Board for Banking and Financial Frauds (ABBFF), a panel constituted to examine bank frauds of over Rs 50 crore and recommend action.

➨Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is an apex Indian governmental body created in 1964 to address governmental corruption.


9) Multiple cities in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and the National Capital Region are hosting synchronised commando drills as part of a national mock exercise being carried out by the counter-terrorist force National Security Guard (NSG) to check its response time and reaction to hostage and hijack-like situations.


10) Russia will begin to deliver surface-to-air missile defense system (SAM) S-400 to India by end of the year 2021.

11) In a bid to honor one year of the implementation of NEP 2020, the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education has prepared a booklet on one-year achievements of the NEP Implementation. 

➨The booklet is launched virtually by the Union Minister of Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan on 24th August, 2021. on DIKSHA, etc.


12) The Government has launched a new geospatial planning portal, ‘Yuktdhara’, that will help in facilitating new MGNREGA assets using remote sensing and geographic information system-based data. 

➨The portal was launched by Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Giriraj Singh.


13) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled the government’s ₹6,00,000 crore ‘National Monetisation Pipeline’ (MNP) project.

➨ Under the ambitious NMP, the government has identified 13 sectors — including airports, railways, roads, shipping, gas pipeline among others— which will be privatised as the government aims to monetise its brownfield infrastructure assets.


14) Broadcast Audience Research Council announced the appointment of Nakul Chopra as its chief executive. 

➨ Chopra will replace Sunil Lulla, who is leaving the TV audience body to pursue entrepreneurial ambitions.

➨ He has served as the chairman of BARC in FY19, after being appointed to the board in 2016.
